Create/Suggest Forum Graphics: Buttons, Smilies, Icons, etc.

Posted:
February 25th, 2008, 11:34 amby Qyzbud
Anyone who has the time and inclination, feel free to suggest or post any designs for forum buttons, smilies, icons and other graphics you'd like to see in use on these forums.
Try to keep the sizes sensible - huge smilies cause lines of text to spread apart.
Remember that this is a DKC forum, and graphics should reflect that.
Submissions will not necessarily be used, but don't let that put you off.

Can we still use our own personal smilies?

 Please?

That would be AWESOME!

From the words of Sam Witwicki:
Just ask yourself...
...
What would Jesus do?
Please lemme use em'. You know you want to.

I think that there should be some sort of policy on Smilies. Like two per post, and not every single post. Smilies can be VERY annoying at times, and if people post 3 or 4 every single post it can be distracting.

If we do get DKC related smilies, we should have:

 = Diddy Kong

 = Diddy Kong again

 = DK

 = Dixie

 = K. Rool
I have no idea how to go about making any of these, but I think they'd be good.

I might try and create some DKC-styled buttons later... but it might look better if they were themed like the main site as well - ie the shrivelled-old-treasure-map look. Not sure, though.

Yeah, I think the torn parchment look, or the shiny golden treasure look would be a good approach.
I should get on to this... but my plate is loaded with a tasty smorgasbord already. Lucky Qyz!

I think the shiny golden stuff can be saved for the DKC2 skin. Parchment and DKC items sound good for buttons on this skin in my opinion.

The map faces in DKC1 and DKC2 can be used for Smilies:
Diddy can be
:O from DKC2 since its animation makes its mouth as "O". Altough it also opens its mouth wide as in
:), we can use Dixie's since she also opens her mouth, and she does it bigger =P
Swanky can be animated and even having the sparkling effect in his mouth, being
:DWrinkly can be

 or

since she opens her eye in the funny way XD
I can't remember how the other Kongs faces are, and since DKC3 lacks faces...
...I sometimes wonder how a "Kiddy Kong" face would look like XD...

Yeah, those would be good to use. My only thoughts are that they would need to be too 'big'. I like the idea of smaller smilies, so they don't stretch the text lines up/down... Maybe I'll work on that now, to see how it goes. I'll put a few here, and we can see what we think.

The map icons from DKC1/2 would be pretty rad.
But then again they serve no purpose when it comes to expressing anything.

Those are very nice, DKCp. They capture the expressions nicely, and aren't too big as standalone images, but would obviously not work as mid-sentence smilies. Great ideas, mate.
Anyone who's interested is welcome to submit their own designs or suggestions.

				DKC-izing the emoticons?

Is it possible to "DKC-ize the emoticons? It would certainly up the "DKCness" of this site!
I could already think of some replacements. (

  to Funky, etc.)

We've had a discussion about customised emoticons/smilies, but I must admit I never got around to creating any.
Maybe now is a good time? Hmm...

geno, if you have the time and energy to create some custom smilies, I'll see about having them added to the collection.

I'll merge this into our previous topic now.

I'd do some, but I don't have a decent gif animator (the one I use only animates at ridiculously low speeds).
If anybody can tell me of a good FREE gif animator, please tell me about it.
In the mean time, enjoy some static ones

				How are these:

 or

 ?
Dixie looks a little off because her hair wasn't animated, but altogether they both look acceptable

About the Cranky waving his stick, I'm going to go start that right now

The talking D.K. head looks cool, but crying Dixie looks odd because of the hair.
I really like the : facepalm : and : diddyshocked : ones too.

I used to use a program called "Microsoft GIF Animator". I was able to make this with it:

Now I use Photoshop. The other program is free, but it's a little tricky to get used to.
